Seventy Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) members from the Batu 4 branch, Kapar, here quit the party yesterday to join Umno, claiming they had lost confidence in the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who they described as a dictator.
Led by the branch head, Mohd Shahbuddin Hasbullah, they handed their Umno membership application forms to Sementa assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rahman Palil.
Mohd Shahbuddin said their decision to quit PKR was on the realisation that Anwar was not concerned with championing the party’s struggle, but to pursue his own personal agenda.
“Furthermore, the branch had not been active since nine months ago and therefore, the best thing to do is to return to Umno’s fold,” said the former Umno member.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman said he expected five more PKR branches in Kapar to be dissolved after the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election tomorrow. — Bernama
