Saham Sabah meeting Turned Down

KOTA KINABALU: Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) unit holder Chin at Chow Chew, who organised a petition for a meeting, regrets that a request for a Meeting of Unit Holders has been turned down.

He urged Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr.Yee Moh Chai to fulfill his duty and facilitate the convening of the meeting.
"The meeting to discuss and decide on resolutions with regards to the losses incurred which the unit holders have requested through a letter is now officially declined by Saham Sabah Berhad (SSB).

"I suspect SSB was under undue influence or external pressure by Dr Yee to decline the petition for a meeting and ignore the rights and interests of the unit holders," he said, in a statement, Wednesday.

Chin hoped Dr Yee who had been very vocal and is knowledgeable on the matter could fulfill his own promise to reveal the truth behind the colossal losses of SAS.

He said the incident has drastically affected the interests of the public, it therefore should not be left in doubts without a transparent and reasonable explanation. S "Obviously, the manager (SSB) is citing an excuse to their convenience to stifle the legitimate request of the unit holders.

"The fact is that, with reference to the Third Supplemental Deed signed between Saham Sabah Berhad and Mayban Trustees Berhad on the April 21, 2008, Division 17.1.2 clearly stipulates that "The Unit Holders may apply to the Manager to summon a meeting for any purpose including, without limitation, for the purposes as per mentioned ...provided always that the number of unit holders requesting such meeting shall not be less than 50.

"Why has the Manager, SSB, ignored Division 17.1.2 of the Third Supplemental Deed, and instead opted a shortcut to frustrate the intention of the unit holders to find the truth behind the SAS losses?," asked Chin.

He said the colossal losses of SAS had long aroused suspicions of the public, and ill-willed parties and individuals had made use of the incident to mud-sling innocent people.

"As a matter of fact, the fiasco has been troubling the management and staff of the company cannot hold their heads high. Have they been under pressure from certain sectors to deter them from taking practical actions to satisfy the legitimate requests of the unit holders?" Chin queried.

He also urged that Dr Yee who has received his written request, to give full support and facilitate SSB to call for a meeting of the unit holders.

"After all, Dr Yee, since the unit prices collapsed in 1998 through 2002 when he was in the opposition, has been very resourceful in exhausting all ways and means in the State Assembly, lodging reports to police and MACC, and demanding the State Government to issue White Paper reveal the truth behind the SAS losses.

"Now that he is elevated as Deputy Chief Minister, it is the right and opportune time for him to perform his duty to materialise and fulfill his promises," he said.

Chin said that the 55,000 unit holders/investors have high confidence that Dr Yee will realise the BN slogan of "Janji Ditepati" and have the courage to fulfill his promises those years to the unit holders/investors, by facilitating the meeting of the unit holders.

At the same time, he said, Dr Yee should prove to the people at large that there is no hidden agenda to cover up for the real culprits behind the refusal of the SSB to call for the meeting. -(DE / Sabahkini)

  4. the motion to present a White Paper on the Saham Amanah Sabah by SAPP leaders viewed as serving only the interest of party president Datuk Yong Teck Lee..

    ReplyDelete
  5. the reason given by SAPP leaders when tabling the motion was invalid and not in accordance with the true purpose of producing a White Paper.

    ReplyDelete
  6. a White Paper by definition was a document produced by the government that allowed an examination to be made and feedback to be gathered to enable certain proposals or programmes to be improved and implemented effectively.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If there is going to be a White Paper, it should not be about looking into the past or to clear Yong Teck Lee name. It must be about looking into the future of Saham Amanah Sabah.. White Paper cannot be used for political or individual interest..

  8. even if it were to be produced, would not serve as a political salvation for the SAPP president who had been under pressure after BN leaders demanded that he should explain the ridiculous and unacceptable huge losses.

  10. SAS - Yong patut jawab, bukan Yee

    ReplyDelete

  81. KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has the potential to become Malaysia’s economic powerhouse, says the Federation of Sabah Manufacturers (FSM) President, Datuk Seri Wong Khen Thau.

    ReplyDelete
  82. To realise this, he said the state government policies, investment climate and business environment must be conducive, particularly for the investing community.

“In the context of the manufacturing sector, we have been promoting Sabah and are going all out to make the state, the business hub for the Far East.

“For example, if we look back at Dubai some 20 years ago or less, it was nothing, just a piece of desert land without development.

    ReplyDelete
  83. “But due to the leadership or rather government’s commitment with regard to the importance of the Blue Ocean Strategy, it turned Dubai from nothing to an economic powerhouse in the Middle East today,” he told Bernama.

Wong was one of the participants of an investor roundtable debate here last Wednesday hosted by the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA), in partnership with International Investor, a UK-based business intelligence and publishing organisation.

He also opined that Sabah in this regard, had a better composition of positive factors, compared to Dubai, and there was no reason to not do better than the Emirate, with commitment and the political will.

    ReplyDelete
  84. “We are happy to note that the Sabah government is in favour of this idea as Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has indicated on occasions that he is personally in support of it" - wong .

    ReplyDelete
  85. He said Sabah is also blessed with natural resources, particularly oil palm plantations.

“We have petroleum too, an essential ingredient to serve as a catalyst for Sabah’s economy and as the centre for the Far East.

“Having said this, our tourism is also one of the best products in the world. I think more and more people are realising the importance of Sabah, including those from China, with one of the country’s top politicians on transit in the state recently,” he added.

Wong also called on the state government to make the necessary changes or align some of the existing policies for Sabah to move forward, and thereby achieve the desired goal.

He said FSM has called for the abolition of the Cabotage Policy to resolve the disparity in prices in Sabah and the Peninsula.

The Cabotage Policy emphasises that only vessels registered in Malaysia are allowed to load and unload cargo in the ports of Malaysia.
