-KD
Bersih on top of the world… literally
PETALING JAYA: Bersih 3.0 has literally reached the top of the world now.
Two Malaysians unable to participate in the rally at Dataran Merdeka tomorrow have decided to have one of their own as they scaled the highest mountain in the world Mount Everest throughout the weekend.
A photograph of the two men was posted on the Bersih 3.0 official page today, garnering more than 1,000 “likes” and more than 100 comments, mostly praising the duo.
In the picture, the men are seen holding a Malaysian flag and the Bersih 3.0 banner with the words “Mendaki Bantah, Mount Everest”, a variation of Bersih 3.0′s theme of “Duduk Bantah.”
“They don’t want their identity to be known at the moment, but they are just ordinary Malaysians who supports us.
“They have put up the Bersih flag on their first day of their base camp yesterday I think,” said Bersih steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah.
It is understood that the two, who had started their journey on April 16, would be putting up more Bersih flags as they climbed higher.
One commentator on Facebook wrote: “Kalau Everest diorang boleh tawan. Apasal Dataran Merdeka kita tak boleh pegang esok, kan? (If they could conquer Everest, why can’t we take Dataran Merdeka tomorrow?)”
Globally, Bersih 3.0 suppporters are expected to gather at 82 locations and 33 countries.
In Malaysia, supporters are expected to gather at 11 different states. In Kuala Lumpur, Bersih 3.0 said it expected more than 100,000 people.
“Oh ya, we’re expecting more than that,” said Maria. -FMT
