25 hari Ops Daulat, musuh tinggal kurang 10 orang

Sepanjang insiden pencerobohan, pasukan keselamatan menembak mati 68 militan, manakala 121 individu ditahan mengikut Akta Kesalahan Keselamatan (Langkah-Langkah Khas) 2012 (Sosma) dan 443 ditahan atas pelbagai kesalahan lain.

— Bernama

  28. Lahad Datu: Sabah CPO - No halt to Ops Daulat until Sulu terrorists are flushed out

Ops Daulat will not end until security forces are certain all the Sulu terrorists have been flushed out from areas where they are still holed up, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib.

He said the security forces have not set a time limit when operations would cease because the fight against the terrorists had spread as far as Semporna and Sandakan, apart from Lahad Datu.

"It (the halt) depends on the security situation in the targeted areas and the operations involved," he told a news conference at Felda Sahabat near here Saturday.

Since Ops Daulat was launched 26 days ago, security forces have killed 68 Sulu terrorists, and arrested 443 individuals for various offences and 121 more under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

Hamza said the body of a terrorist killed on March 6 was retrieved from a battle scene in Kampung Tanjung Batu, Lahad Datu in the morning to bring the total number of bodies recovered so far to 46. - Bernama

  29. Lahad Datu: Tanduo village closed for good

A decision has been made to permanently close the seaside Tanduo village, which was the centre of a battle between Malaysian security forces and Sulu gunmen.

The 20 families from 15 homes would be resettled at a 121ha site at Sungai Merah, adjacent to the Tanduo village, said Tungku assemblyman Datuk Mohd Suhaili Said.

“The Tanduo village is proposed to be made into a security base under the Eastern Sabah Safety Zone,” he said, explaining that the village was found to be suited strategically as it sat between the Sulu Sea and the Sulawesi Sea.

Suhaili told reporters that the new settlement would be equipped with facilities such as a clinic, kindergarten and surau, among others, that would ensure the safety and comfort of the villagers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Some 200 Sulu gunmen, led by Raja Muda Azzimudie, intruded into Tanduo on Feb 9 that led to a three-week standoff between them and Malaysian security forces. The latter launched a massive air and artillery attack to flush them out on March 5.

Ten days later, security forces took back Tanduo.

Most of the villagers claimed that the Sulu gunmen had looted their homes of household items such as television sets, sofas and refrigerators during the standoff.

Their homes were also damaged during the fighting.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Police are continuing their mop-up operations for remnants of the gunmen in neighbouring Kg Tanjung Batu, Kg Tanjung Labian and Kg Sungai Bilis Suhaili.

The residents are taking shelter at three community centres in Felda Sahabat.

The villagers, including those in Kampung Tanjung Batu and Kampung Tanjung Labian, had gone on a shopping spree buying television sets, fans, refrigerators and even air-conditioners when they received electricity supply last month.

They had just begun enjoying the facilities when the foreign gunmen appeared in the remote coastal settlement.

When the villagers moved to safety at community halls, they feared that the gunmen might cart away the electrical items or loot their houses when they were away.

Sabah Immigration director Datuk Mohammad Mentek has been appointed director of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), effective April 1.

“Mohammad, 48, has vast experience in the fields of human resource development and management, finance and security,” said Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa.

“I believe his qualification, experience, knowledge and credibility will enable him to helm Esscom well, and ensure public order and security in the special security zone,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Mohammad holds a Master of Science (Statistics) degree and a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) degree from the University of Minnesota, the United States.

He joined the civil service as an administrative and diplomatic officer in1992. He was appointed Sabah Immigration director on Aug 14, 2010.

  33. Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussin yesterday assured Sabahans that the situation in Lahad Datu due to the intrusion of armed men would not affect the impending 13th general election.
“On the issue of security, it will not affect the general election. On the issue of the legal aspect, the Attorney General has also made his views known earlier so the people in Sabah should not have to worry about it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. “The only concern that we have is that there may be some unscrupulous group that will exploit the situation by spreading rumours and as what we went through last month, it was very clear that 99 per cent of the rumours were not true, so I hope the mindset conditioning of the people in Sabah can continue from here so that we can learn from our experience,” Hishammuddin told a press conference here yesterday.
He also stressed that no curfew had been imposed in the east coast, especially in districts that are now under the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM).

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hishammuddin said from the aspect of security in Lahad Datu, the situation was back to normal except in only a few villages where the mopping up exercise by security forces was still in progress.
He expressed hope that the exercise can be tidied up soon.
Hishammuddin also explained that what was happening in Lahad Datu was not political but was linked to sovereignty, stability, peace and honour of the people, especially in Sabah

    ReplyDelete
  36. “The Suluks are not our enemy, our enemy are the intruders who jeopardized our safety and we have initiated an investigation to find who could be behind the intrusion … whether they are from within or outside the country.
“Investigations are being done through our intelligence and so far we have detained about 400 people, eight who have been charged in court. Today (yesterday), I will be getting a detailed briefing at the Prisons department in Tawau on what more needs to be done because the new Act allows us to detain the people but they must be charged in court within 28 days.

    ReplyDelete
  37. “This is a responsible government and when we want to talk about populist politics, even the laws that we have amended, we did not just throw them out of the window without thinking of the consequences and the new laws that have been introduced are sufficient to make sure that Sabahans are safe and those who are suspected to be involved can be detained,” he said.
Hishammuddin during a press conference before departing to Tawau said state Immigration director Datuk Datuk Mohammad Mentek was appointed as ESSCOM director who would be looking into the roll-out of all plans in the security zone involving 10 districts.

    ReplyDelete
  38. According to Hishammuddin, the ESSCOM headquarters would be located in Lahad Datu and he would personally be monitoring the roll-out plans, including the setting up of a new police station in Kerakit.
“The (command) structure of ESSCOM is clearly seen and our commitment to ensure that Sabahans feel safe and the threats spread by certain quarters are baseless. I hope that the public can understand and learn from what we have undergone the past few weeks so that no one will exploit the situation to create fear among Sabahans.

    ReplyDelete
  39. “I am confident with the plans made but close monitoring by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and myself will make Sabahans more confident that what we have gone through recently will be a lesson and we will overcome it together,” he said.
