SELAMAT BERJUANG

  1. Manila has called for a peaceful end to the Sabah crisis, with President Benigno Aquino III saying negotiations are the best way to resolve the conflict in the face of widespread domestic criticism that he had done little to help end the bloodshed.

  2. Aquino, accused as being “pro-Malaysia”, is facing strong domestic pressure for Manila to push the dispute over Sabah’s ownership to the International Court of Justice. The president’s detractors believe heeding the Sulu sultanate’s claim over the Malaysian state is the only option for a peaceful end to the crisis.

    ReplyDelete
  3. But Aquino has so far resisted the idea, admitting that an international legal battle on Sabah’s ownership could complicate relations with Putrajaya.

““We already know how complicated this issue is. Could any Malaysian prime minister so easily agree to let go of a land that for so long has been subject to their laws?” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying.

  4. Yesterday, Filipino hackers defaced the Philippine government’s telecommunications website, lambasting Aquino as being pro-Putrajaya for doing nothing to stop the alleged human rights violations against Filipinos in Sabah.

  5. “We do not know how you are able to relax while our Filipino brothers sacrifice their life to defend Sabah. It seems you are a Pro-Malaysian,” Anonymous Philippines was quoted by ABS-CBN News as writing on the Philippines National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) website.

  6. “And now you are on the side of Malaysian Gov, many people knew that Sabah is part of the Philippines, We’re not encouraging the PH Gov to declare a war on Malaysia but Philippines must defend it’s (sic) sovereignty,” added the loose hacker group that pushes for Internet freedom and free speech.

  7. The Philippines and Malaysia have, however, agreed that it was within Putrajaya’s rights to defend its borders after appeals for negotiations were met with stubborn refusal from the Kiram clan.

  8. Last Wednesday, Aquino reportedly ordered government officials to stock up on food supplies and step up humanitarian support to Filipinos including illegal emigrants seeking better jobs who have started to return to the republic by the hundreds since last week.

  9. Philippine lawmakers are now pressuring the Aquino administration to file a formal complaint with Putrajaya as allegations of abuse of Filipinos flood the country in the wake of the Sabah armed conflict.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Meanwhile, Philippine Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas echoed Aquino’s view but said “aggressive diplomacy” was the only viable option for the Manila to end the crisis.

“[Let’s] continue … reaching out and [appealing] to Malaysia,” the Inquirer quoted Roxas as saying, adding communication lines between Aquino and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak remained open.

LAHAD DATU: OCTOGENARIAN Lajin Bundik, his wife Selamah Ando, two children and six grandchildren went through a terrifying 48 hours when they were held captive by Sulu terrorists at their home in Tanjung Batu, here, last month.

Lajin when met at his granddaughter's squatter home in Jeragan Bistari at Felda Sahabat 38, here, said it was 8am when he saw a group of armed men coming towards the village.

"They were walking from Kampung Tanduo and nine of them came to my house," said Lajin, adding that several of them were carrying firearms while the rest were armed with machetes.

"They looked like they were geared up for a battle. I wanted to run but was too scared," said Lajin who was with his sick wife and their four grandchildren.

Lajin said one of the terrorists approached him and told him not to worry for they only wanted food.

"They also asked us to close all the windows and doors and to remain indoors. They made themselves comfortable in my house. They took their shower and slept in the living room," said Lajin.

He said he escaped on the second day after he heard the sound of gunfire and explosions at the village.

"They did not stop us and we ran into the plantation to seek help."
When they reached the nearest settlement, their relative took them to Lajin's granddaughter's home in Felda Sahabat 38. They have been staying there since.

Lajin refused to stay at the evacuation centre because he felt uncomfortable surrounded by many people.

"It is best to be here although the place is a bit crowded with my grandchildren."

Lajin's family was not the only one affected by the armed terrorists.
Another villager, who is also Lajin's son-in-law, Hamdan Arsad, 52, said the terrorists spent one night at his house.

"They asked for food and I had nothing to offer but they stayed the night. There were two women in the group."

The next day, Hamdan asked the terrorists if they could allow him to leave. They let him go but told him not to go into the plantations.
"I walked for hours and went to my relative's house and met my father-in-law who had earlier escaped."

Hamdan and Lajin were among hundreds of Tanjung Batu villagers who fled their homes following the intrusion.

THUS, WE MUST KEEP ON SUPPORT THE COPS AS THEY WILING TO LEAVE THEIR FAMILY JUST TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM THE TERRORIST. LAHAD DATU: It is a call of duty that Corporal Hussein Abdul Rashid could not refuse.

But he is not complaining. In fact, he believes that his 35 years of experience in the force has prepared him well for the challenge.

The 56-year-old said he was mentally and physically ready when he saw his name on the ‘semboyan’ (order) list that came from the police headquarters.

“I was actually proud to be selected. I am a Sabahan and I am honoured to defend my state. It is our responsibility as policemen; to maintain security and defend the sovereignty of our country,” he said, when met while on duty with several other colleagues at Simpang 3, Tanjung Labian, last night.

The team has been assigned to the posting, doing roadblocks, for about a month now, located at the junction leading to the red zone areas of Kampung Tanduo, Kampung Tanjung Labian and Kampung Tanjung Batu.

“We are aware of the danger we are in but that is part of the job,” he said.

Hussein and his team were all dressed in dark attire and it is no surprise since they basically have to be ‘invisible’ most of the time. In this pitch black environment, all we can hear are sounds of broken branches and insects and there are a lot of mice here.

“It can be quite eerie here sometimes,” he said.

What has made Hussein even prouder was the fact that two of his sons are also stationed at Felda Sahabat to carry out similar mission.

“One of my sons has followed in my footstep. He is a policeman too, while the other son signed up with the armed forces. I know they are here (Felda Sahabat) somewhere, but I do not know where they are stationed. I have not seen them for a while now. I am however in constant contact with my wife back home in Silam. As much as I would like to be reunited with my family, for now my focus is my work,” he said.

His words were echoed by his fellow comrade, Corporal Abdul Aziz Sulaiman.

“We find comfort in confiding with each other. My fellow comrades are my family here … it eases the pain of being away from your loved ones a bit. Our only consolation is that we are doing this to protect not only Sabah, the country, but also the safety of our family and the people,” he said.

Thousands of security forces from all over the country have been posted here to defend the state as a result of the intrusion by a group of armed men from Sulu.

  31. Biarpun bakal berhadapan dengan cabaran besar pada pilihan raya umum ke-13 (PRU-13) nanti, Barisan Nasional(BN) di bawah pimpinan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yakin menang dan terusmentadbir negara, kata Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

  49. LAHAD DATU: 'Locals a part of the problem'

THE community leader lit up a cigarette as he spoke of the problems caused by illegal immigrants in Sabah.

    ReplyDelete
  50. He blamed the lax security for not being able to tackle the presence of many illegals, who have had a free reign to smuggle in, among others, contraband cigarettes.
"Just like the type I am smoking now," he said of the Astro brand cigarette that he bought at RM3 on the streets here from immigrant pedlars.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oblivious that his purchase had contributed to sustaining the livelihood of illegal immigrants in the state, he said: "Those 'legal' cigarettes are just too expensive."
This community leader is not the only culprit.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The transient population is feeding off the convenience they provide the locals, from cheap goods to cheap labour, and that makes almost everyone responsible.
None, however, wants to take the blame, not even the community leader who said the enforcement authorities and security forces were not doing their job properly.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The arrival of the armed terrorists from the southern Philippines last month and the eventual battle to flush them out at Felda Sahabat had been an eye-opener of the threats, posed by the illegals.

Society, however, remained dependent on their supply of cheap products and services; and for that, they will keep coming.

    ReplyDelete
  54. District officer Zulkifli Nasir said many locals were in denial that they were a part of the problem because of the demands they created by buying the goods the illegals sold cheaply and hiring cheap labour.

He recounted how he came under fire when he tried to remove about 200 makeshift stalls at a parking lot at Dataran Palma here.

"From a few romben- gan stalls selling second-hand clothes, they turned the area into a full-fledged illegal flea market that eventually became a threat to traders running legitimate businesses."

    ReplyDelete
  55. When Zulkifli initiated the move to tear down the stalls, he was criticised by locals who backed the illegal Indonesian and Filipino traders.

"Despite this, the illegal structures were torn down. If we had allowed the area to remain as it was, it is tantamount to giving recognition to their illegal activities."

    ReplyDelete
  56. For some time now, Indonesian and Filipino immigrants have been coming to Sabah because of the hardship they face in their countries.

Zulkifli said they were willing to do anything, legal or otherwise, to earn their living.
